Incessant rains continued to lash Pune and most parts of Western Maharashtra on Wednesday under the influence of the depression in the Arabian sea, affecting normal life.

Heavy downpour in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts during winter season has also adversely affected many crops including grapes and cotton, sources in the Directorate of Agriculture in Pune said on Wednesday.

Reports from North Maharashtra said the unseasonal rains have caused damage to 'tur' dal and 'jowar' in some regions including Khandesh.

Traffic on Pune-Mumbai highway, which was disrupted last night when a gas tanker turned turtle near Kamshet has been restored, police said.

Vehicular traffic in the city too was affected by water logging in many areas.

Strong winds accompanied rains in the city, which recorded 75mm rain till last night.

According to Medha Khole, Director MET office in Pune, heavy rainfall was expected to continue over coastal and Madhya Maharashtra during the next 48 hours.
