Heavy rains lashed several parts of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday that led to house collapses and inundation, killing at least 28 people in the last 24 hours.
Several incidents of building collapses were reported from Hyderabad city where 10 people died. Krishna district accounted for five deaths followed by West Godavari four, Guntur and Medak three each, Visakhapatnam two and Nalgonda one.
Normal life came to a standstill following rains since last evening inundating low-lying areas in the districts of Hyderabad, Warangal, Khammam, Ranaga Reddy and Krishna.
The state capital has received 20 cm of rainfall since yesterday evening throwing normal life out of gear as rainwater entered houses in low-lying areas.
Water level in Hussainsagar lake, which connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, passed the danger mark due to rainwater and people residing in low-lying areas were evacuated to safer places, official sources said.
Isolated heavy rain is likely to occur in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari districts and in Telangana region over the next two days, a local Meteorological office said.
