Actor-turned politician Hema Malini said that her statement about north Indians was twisted by the media.
Malini, who is a Member of Parliament from the Bhartiya Janata Party__had recently said that north Indians who were unhappy in Maharashtra should return to their native states.
However, at a press conference in Juhu, the Rajya Sabha member said that the media had twisted her statement.
"I did not say it with the intention to hurt anybody," Malini told journalists. "That day, I had also said that north Indians have contributed a lot to the nation's glory. But nobody highlighted that statement."
Malini addressed the media on Monday at the BJP's ward number 63 offices in Juhu.
She was there to campaign for BJP candidate, Ameet Satam and was initially reluctant to talk about the controversial comment she made a public function in the suburbs last week.
"I will have to be very careful when I am talking to you," she remarked, referring to journalists. However, Malini did reveal that she will be traveling to north India to campaign for the forthcoming polls there.
