Chances are that there could be a ding dong race to complete yet another Hera Pheri sequel. The first sequel titled Phir Hera Pheri made two years ago by its original producer Firoz Nadiadwala and directed by Neeraj Vohra, had tanked.
Of late, there has been talk that producer Nadiadwala intends to start work on the second sequel.
But hang on. In a recent interview with HT City, Priyadarshan, who directed the first Hera Pheri, stated, “I am also making a film with the Hera Pheri team of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal for Venus. There is another team which is working on a Hera Pheri sequel, so I don’t know who will name the movie Hera Pheri 3.”
Reviving old tiff?
This has set off the buzz that Priyardarshan is likely to upstage Firoz Nadiadwala, who had produced the Akshay Kumar-Suniel Shetty-Paresh Rawal comic caper some eight years ago. Tentatively titled, De Dhana Dhan, Priyadarshan’s next with the trio is being produced by Venus Films. It is believed that Katrina Kaif, Neha Dhupia and Sameera Reddy have been confirmed to play the female leads.
On being contacted, Ratan Jain of Venus said, “Priyadarshan hasn’t said anything to the effect that we’re making a sequel to Hera Pheri. My movie has no connection with the movie [Hera Pheri], even though the three actors are in my film too. All I can say for now is that it’s a comedy.
Revealing the plot or the idea of the film would be telling too much too soon.”
After the sequel Phir Hera Pheri, Nadiadwala announced his intentions of making the third movie, titled International Hera Pheri with Anees Bazmee directing the three actors. But since then, there has been no news on that front. Nadiadwala was unavailable for comment.
Meanwhile, De Dhana Dhan is believed to start shooting this November in Singapore. Jain and Priyadarshan are planning to wrap up most of the shooting in the two-month schedule. Incidentally, Priyadarshan has acquired a bungalow and a sound studio in Singapore. Meanwhile Tips has registered
a movie titled Phera Pheri. Too much pheris, no?
