Call it a foodie’s fleshiest dream come! Burger King has unveiled a leviathan meat burger made of two hamburger patties, a chicken breast, a slice of processed cheese and strips of bacon that weighs in at 1,160 calories — more than half the recommended daily intake of calories for the average woman. And they aptly call it the Meat Monster.
The sandwich, which groans under the weight of pork, beef and chicken, is only available in Japan and costs around €6.85 or 820 Yen (around Rs 443).
At 69 grams of fat, 24 grams of saturated fat and 2,300mg of sodium the sandwich packs a wallop of a nutritional hit. It was launched as part of the restaurant’s ‘Have it your way’ campaign, encouraging people to customise their sandwiches and order à la carte. It’s the latest extreme sandwich to try to entice fast-food diners.
KFC’s Double Down, which uses deep-fried chicken breasts to sandwich a filling of bacon and cheese, created a frenzy of demand in the US and Canada when it was launched last year. The Original Recipe Double Down clocks in at 560 calories, 32g of fat and 1,380mg of sodium. Meanwhile, to help promote Microsoft’s launch of Windows 7 in 2009, Japanese Burger King outlets also offered the Whopper Seven, a seven-patty burger that was promoted for seven days.
