In the backdrop of a poster war between supporters of former Union minister P Chidambaram and TNCC chief EVKS Elangovan, an uneasy truce returned to the state Congress unit after the intervention of the high command. The Congress leadership has rebuked Elangovan for his comments against the former Union finance minister.
Elangovan, at present in Delhi campaigning for the assembly elections there, said that he has already given an explanation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on the Chidambaram issue.
The poster war began in Erode district with Chidambaram supporters plastering the town with posters asking Elangovan to quit. Similar posters with photographs of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on one side and those of Chidambaram and his son Karti on the other side appeared in some parts of Chennai and Thiruchirapalli as well, even after Congress high command questioned him on his criticism of the former minister.
Elangovan said that he had met party in charge of Tamil Nadu, Mukul Wasnik .
Sources said Chidambaram took serious exception to Elangovan’s remark that the Congress would be healthier if “a leader and his heir” quit the party and complained to Rahul Gandhi.
Chidambaram’s supporters expressed relief over reported rebuke of Elangovan by the Congress high command.
