The Congress high command will decide whether the party will contest the lone Lok Sabha seat in Puducherry, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy said on Saturday.
"We will abide by the decision of party chief Sonia Gandhi," Narayanaswamy, who is also an AICC general secretary, told reporters in Puducherry.
There is speculation that the Congress, which fought the last elections as part of the party-led DPA, had intensified efforts to get the seat for the party.
Now, the PMK, an ally of the Congress, is holding the seat.
Replying to another question as to whether he would be the Congress nominee, he said "all such decisions should be taken only by party leader Sonia Gandhi and we have no say in the matter."
He, however, hastened to add that the Congress had contested and held the seat on a majority of the occasions in the past.
