THE HIGH Court at Jabalpur on Wednesday admitted a PIL seeking directions to the State Government to fix the rate per litre of milk and its products. The price of milk and related products inflates during summer at MP in general and Jabalpur district in particular.

Besides, the PIL seeks direction to assure that only the license holders are permitted to sell milk and its products. After admitting the PIL, a division bench comprising Chief Justice A. K. Patnaik and Justice Ajit Singh today restricted the sale of milk by the persons who do not possess license under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and related rules.

The Court also directed the State government and the Jabalpur district collector to ensure that unauthorized persons are checked from selling milk.

The Bench heard the petitioner before issuance of two weeks returnable notices on the State Government and the Jabalpur district collector.

The Nagrik Upbhokta Margdarshak Manch (NUMM) alleged that due to the government inaction about 95 per cent people are engaged in sale of milk and its products without possessing license in the district. The PIL further said that during summer the rate per litre of milk is frequently increased from Rs. 17 to Rs. 19.
