Uttarakhand high court on Friday gave respite to Balkrishna by putting a stay on his possible arrest by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) till 29th August. Balkrishna who is facing charges by agency for furnishing false documents for getting passport sought ten days time to appear before agency which the CBI rejected.

CBI has asked Balkrishna to appear before it on 4th of August for questioning in connection with fake degrees and acquiring passport through inappropriate means.

"He has been again asked to appear before the CBI in Dehradun on 4th August whereas he had asked for 10 days time to appear in front of CBI" Dharini Mishra, CBI spokesperson told Hindustan Times. She informed that all the extensions given to him to appear before CBI done under normal procedures.

Earlier anticipating the arrest by the investigating agency, Balkrishna moved high court to quash the cases filed by CBI against him. On Friday single bench of high court stayed the arrest of Balkrishna and asked him to surrender his passport within ten days and directed him not to leave the country till August 29 (the date when next hearing is scheduled). High court also asked Balkrishna to cooperate CBI in the whole investigation.

It is learnt earlier this week CBI summoned Balkrishna to appear before Dehradun office on Thursday. Balkrishna sent a fax in which he pleaded for more time to retrieve his passport from British High Commission. CBI turned down his request and asked him to appear on Friday. In between Balkrishna moved high court for getting anticipatory bail against possible CBI action.

CBI had earlier issued a look-out notice against Balkrishna after registering a case against him under various sections of Indian Penal Code. The agency even wrote to the ministry of external affairs for revoking his passport

Interestingly, on Thursday evening in a press conference Baba Ramdev claimed that Balkrishna is not absconding or missing and he is in the Pantajali Yogpeeth premises located in Haridwar. Whereas District police of Haridwar has been looking for Balkrishna for last couple of days but police team failed to find him and even had to paste the CBI notice on the door of his residence. Nevertheless Balkrishna’s gunner had filed a ‘missing complaint’ about Balkrishan with the Kankhal police station.
