MP HIGH Court on Saturday served notices on the State Forest Department Principal Secretary, Home Department Secretary, and the Chief Conservator of Forests on a plea of a forester alleging that the police was harassing him.

Jaipal Singh Purram, a forester posted at the Baramundi bamboo depot of Lanji tehsil in Balaghat district, alleged that Lanji police station town inspector J A Ahmed on May 18, 2005 threatened him that he would be killed if he didn’t release a truck that was seized as it was found to have 873 extra bamboo pieces when the quantity mentioned in the transit pass was examined.

The petitioner claimed that he intimated the depot officer and the divisional forest officer (south) Balaghat about the police harassment, but to his surprise the forest officials served a show cause notice on him for dereliction of duty.

During preliminary hearing of the petition, Justice K K Lahoti served six-week returnable notices on the respondents. The petitioner’s counsel R S Verma argued that his client was receiving continuous threats from the police personnel and is working under stress.
