Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday said the large turn out in Jammu and Kashmir elections is proof of the people's faith in democratic system and a lesson to be learnt by "our neighbours", an apparent reference to Pakistan.

"It does not matter who wins, what matters is the people of the valley, people of Jammu and people of Jammu and Kashmir have expressed their faith in the democratic system. It is a lesson to be learnt by our neighbours," Gandhi told reporters on the sidelines of Congress Foundation Day celebrations in New Delhi.

Gandhi noted that she had been saying from the very beginning that elections should be held on time and that she was glad that it has happened so.
