A truck accident came as a boon for a large number of people of 30 villages in Jajpur district as the vehicle was loaded with 1080 cartons of India made foreign liquor.
The truck was carrying liquor transported to a bottling unit at Sutei in Balasore district from a distillery at Ekamkana of Puri district. It skidded off the road and overturned near Kharasrota River Bridge at Khanditara, about 30 km from here, in the wee hours on Thursday.
As the news spread, people from villages under Dharmasala and Korei police stations areas thronged the spot and looted the liquor bottles ranging from 180 ml to 750 ml of whiskey and vodka from the truck, the police said.
About 20 per cent of the liquor bottles were either looted or damaged in the accident.
