For the very first time in Delhi University (DU), Hindu College alumni attended a reunion function to relive their hostel days.

The Hindu College hostel and college authorities organised a reunion for all those former students who had once lived in the hostel. Among the alumni present included prominent faces such as film director Imtiaz

Ali and actor Rajesh Kumar of Sarabhai VS Sarabhai fame.

"I did History (honours) and graduated in 1998. Coming back here feels wonderful because everything is still the same within the college area. The surrounding areas, though, have changed a lot since I was last here," said Rajesh Kumar.

The hostel reunion, which is independent of the annual alumni meet organised by the college, started as a discussion forum on Facebook and later gathered momentum, which resulted in the reunion, held on Saturday.

"No other college in DU has done this ever. We decided to do this because hostellers have a special connection with the college unlike day scholars. So, we have made arrangements for the former students to spend the night in the hostel. We have also organised a cultural programme and a T-20 cricket match for them," said PK Vijayan, member of the organising committee.

The event also saw the presence of several other former students who had come from all across the country.

"I have come all the way from Kolkata and it feels out of this world to be back here and this is all thanks to the support gathered on Facebook," said Amartya Banerjee, who spent five years in the Hindu College hostel.
