Following a relentless campaign by Hindustan Times on women's security, the Noida authority has repaired around 4,000 streetlights across the city during a special drive in the last 10 days.
Hindustan Times has been highlighting the risk posed to women while crossing dark stretches in the city. Noida authority had partnered with the paper to make the city safe.
On Monday, the chief maintenance engineer of Noida authority asked his subordinates to inspect the areas and verify the repair work carried out by private contractors.
"I have directed the project engineers of the three zones to inspect the work done in their areas by the field staff and personally verify and submit the job completion report. PEs have been directed to report wherever there is any discrepancy between the report given by the field staff and on-site inspection. Action will be initiated against the concerned staff for slackness in work and wrong reporting," chief maintenance engineer Hom Singh Yadav said.
Yadav said that around 1,000 streetlights could not be rectified due to fault in cables.
"I have directed the maintenance staff to attend to streetlights complaints immediately. Within 24 hours of a complaint being received, maintenance staff will have to get it repaired otherwise he will have to give reasons why work was not completed. Then in 48 hours, he has to make the streetlight functional," Yadav said.
