Hizb terrorist among two killed, PDP leader escapes

A Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist and a woman were killed in separate incidents while a councillor of ruling People's Democratic Party escaped an attempt on his life in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said on Sunday.
The bullet-riddled body of Hizbul terrorist Zahoor Ahmad Shah was recovered by police from Nela Najwan area of Kangan, 40 kms from Srinagar on Sunday morning, the sources said.
Shah, a resident of Baba-Wuyal village, was an active militant and was killed under mysterious circumstances, the sources said adding police are investigating the case.
Police also recovered the bullet-riddled body of a young woman, identified as Khalida Akhter, from village Buddan in Baramulla district today, the sources said.
Akhter, a resident of Sheeri, was abducted by unidentified ultras shortly after midnight and later killed.
PDP's Srinagar councillor Tanvir Sadiq escaped unhurt when unidentified militants opened fire at him while he, alongwith health officer of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Dr Shafqat Hussain, was touring his Maideen Sahib constituency in Lal Bazar area of the city on Saturday evening, the sources said.
Son of senior PDP leader Sadiq Ali, Tanvir was reviewing arrangements in connection with Muharram when the ultras, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on his cavalcade and fled in after his police guards retaliated, the sources said.
No one was injured in the brief shootout, they said. No terrorist outfit has so far claimed responsiblity for the incident.
