Holkar Principal gets clean chit

HOLKAR COLLEGE Principal Narendra Dhakad got a clean chit in the case of a student committing suicide after being caught ragging. The magisterial enquiry report was tabled before the District Collector who passed it on to the higher education authorities for recommended action on Friday.

The report found that ragging had taken place in the college. Dhakad, who had received complaint of ragging over phone, had alerted both the police and the college staff. Later, chastising the three accused caught from the spot, he handed them over to the Bhanwarkuan police.

The students were later released in the evening for the sake of their future and sources have it that this was done under pressure. One of the accused Ashok Choudhary from Khargone went missing from his private hostel and his body was later recovered from the railway track.

The enquiry found that the motive behind the suicide was not clear and it could not be ascertained whether he was under pressure or suffering from guilty conscience. Moreover, the deceased had not spoken to anyone about his mental trauma and just went missing.

No purpose of incitement can be levied against any person in this incident and the hale and hearty presence of the other two accused shows that the deceased had taken the matter to heart though no FIR was lodged against them.

It has, however, been recommended that Dhakad be transferred to some other college. The situation in the college is perceived to be tense with assumed enmity against the principal. It is felt in the best interest of all that a change is made so that the name of the highly respectable college is not tarnished.

The report also recommends appointment of a permanent principal as a solution to the vexatious issues of the college. The college authorities have been asked to check the entry of outside elements on the campus.

It was found that the demonstrations over this incident had been more of a political nature than student agitations. The report seals the fate of Dhakad who has had a love-hate relationship with the college. He had been posted as permanent principal earlier but transferred when a female teacher alleged sexual harassment against him.

Dhakad could be moved to the Government College in Mhow only after much coxing by the authorities and landed himself in a spot during a major faux-pase committed during exams there.

He later got himself transferred back to Holkar Science College as acting principal. The college has seen only acting principals since Dhakad was removed from the post and hopefully would get to see one again thanks to him.
