The Dutch are overwhelming favourites to win the World Cup, and with good reason. They won the Champions Trophy and the Azlan Shah earlier this year to go into the tournament with an enviable win record against all the major contenders in the fray.

Coach Roelant Oeltmans would be looking to add a fourth World title to their list of achievements, equalling Pakistan's record. And he can realistically hope to do so. He has Guus Vogels as goalkeeper, who has time and again thwarted the opposition. He has Ronald Brouwer and Rob Reckers upfront to score the goals.

He has Taeke Taekema and Teun de Nooijer to ensure that no one comes in-between the defence and the attack. Nooijer, as a two-time FIH Player of the Year, is perhaps the most influential player in world hockey today, guiding his team to more wins than any other individual in what is essentially a team event.
