As India enters its 60th year as a republic, public anger against our politicians has reached a point where the people’s faith in democracy itself has been eroded, a nation-wide CNN-IBN survey shows.

Just 41 per cent of the respondents are fully convinced that democracy is “preferable to any other form of government”, a clear decline from the 49 per cent in 2005.

However the good news is that only 21 per cent agreed that “in certain situations a dictatorial government is preferable.” So democracy, though surviving somewhat precariously, is still our most preferred form of government.

The full results of the survey will be aired at 10 pm on 26 January on CNN-IBN’s State of the Nation show. Tune in for more revelations.
