Bodies of a man and a woman, who had been missing from their village since December 31, were found on Saturday in a forest near Avairaini village in Mathura.

Both victims had gun shot wounds on their temple. The police have also recovered a country-made pistol from the site. Strangely, polive have recovered just two cartridges from the site, one used and the other live.

Though the police are treating it as a case of suicide, the boy’s kin have alleged that it was a case of honour killing.

The boy’s maternal uncle Balbir Singh has alleged that Pinki, 18, and Prakash, 20, both residents of Avairaini village, had been in a relationship, which was not acceptable to the girl’s family as she had already got married to another man three years ago, but had been living with her parents.

However, the couple went missing on December 31 and could not be found.

“It is a case of honour killing. Pinki’s family killed both of them,” he said.

However, refuting his statements, Pinki’s father Pooran Singh said, “They committed suicide. Prakash had attempted suicide two months back also.”

SP rural, Mathura, Anil Kumar Rai said, “Both families had no rivalry. It seems that Prakash shot Pinky first and then shot himself.”

SSP Pradeep Kumar said, “It seems to be a case of suicide instigated by a failed love affair, but we are investigating the case from all angles. A forensic test will be conducted for further investigation.”
