I’m likely to reach Dehradun railway station late in the evening. How do I travel to Mussoorie? Is it safe to travel late? How much time will it take, and how much will the cab fare be?
— Anil
One should avoid travelling at night from Dehradun to Mussoorie. Your driver may be an expert but it is risky to drive in the ghats at night. If possible, check-in at Dehradun that night, visit local places such as: Tarakeshwar Mandir the next day, and leave for Mussoorie only post lunch. The taxi fare should be anywhere between Rs 700 and Rs 1,000. You can negotiate the fares at any taxi stand in Dehradun, or alternatively, ask your hotel to arrange for one.

I will soon be taking a trip to Orissa and also visiting Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh) in May. Could you please brief me about the weather there at that time of the year? Also, will I be able to see snow? I’d love to visit a place with snowfall during May.
— Mohammed
There is a very little snow there at this time of the year. Although, you may find a bit of old snow at Sela Pass and enroute to Sungestar or Madhuri Lake beyond Tawang. Usually it does not start raining in May. But you can visit the major attraction — Tawang Monastery. As far as witnessing snow is concerned, if you are lucky you may see a fresh snowfall, depending on the weather condition during that time.
