How to accesorise your home better

A dining table needs as much decoration as other areas of your home. An aesthetically kept dining table makes your dining experience more enjoyable. So, use accessories to beautify your dining table. “Whether the dining table is in use or not, it’s necessary to decorate it, as it adds beauty, warmth and colour to your dining area,” says, Vandana Khosla of Elvy.

While decorating your dining table, always consider two things: aesthetics and function. Thus, place only those accessories that have both the elements. Also, a decorative hanging lighting fixture above the dining table is a basic necessity to illuminate the area. You could also place a rug underneath the table to bring some colour to the eating space. Here are ways to beautify your table.

Living RoomTablecloth

A tablecloth makes for a great furnishing accessory for instant beautification. It is also a good way to hide any flaws of the dining table. Radhika Gupta of Moon River says, "Investing in an interesting tablecloth with an interesting fabric, such as banarasi silk, is a cheap and effective trick to do up the table." Tablecloths come in various fabrics, designs and shapes and also serve the purpose of protecting the dining table from scratches or any damages. You can scout for fabrics such as silk, cotton, linen or cotton/polyester blends in prints or with embroidery.

Runners, mats

If you don’t fancy the idea of covering up the tabletop completely, then runners are the best option. These are a narrow strip of cloth or fabric, which are spread in the center length of the table. Runners also come in varied styles and designs, with and without embellishment. Like tablecloths, you should at least invest in two runners — one for regular use and the other for special occasions. Placing pretty table mats alongside will add to the look of your dining area. You can match the mats with the runner for a coordinated decor style.

Centrepieces

Adding a medium size centrepiece is like giving final touch to the dining table decor. You can either base the theme of the entire décor around the centrepiece, or do it vice versa. From vases, candelabra to interesting showpieces — all can serve as dining centrepieces.

Lighting

Your dining area should always be well lit. Apart from hanging a light fixture above the dining table, you can add other lighting objects on to the dining table, such as votives with tea-lights, candles or candle stands, medium height lampshades etc. These add-ons are capable of making your eating experience more romantic.
