Around a fortnight before she killed her daughter in April 2012, Indrani Mukerjea tried to win Sheena Bora’s confidence by hosting a dinner to celebrate her six-month-old engagement with Rahul Mukerjea, said the CBI in its case chargesheet.
According to it, Indrani had in fact allegedly planned the crime as she was against the proposed marriage.
Indrani had allegedly lured Sheena to meet her again, alone, for dinner and an engagement gift on April 24, 2012, after which the accused and two other co-accused abducted and then strangled the deceased in Mumbai. The chargesheet recorded in detail how Indrani allegedly spun a web of deceit to commit the crime and camouflage it.
After the murder, Indrani employed a series of deceptions, using Bora’s phone set and email accounts in her name (including a fake one), to seek convincing relatives and Rahul that the deceased was “abroad, in US”, where she was “alive and “happy”, said the chargesheet.
Indrani had even used the fake account in Sheena’s name, which she had created weeks after the murder, to communicate with her husband Peter in March 2013. The account was allegedly also used by Indrani to get Sheena’s agreement for the latter’s rented flat cancelled and ensure deceased’s resignation from her job.
“After dropping Sheena Bora, Rahul tried to call on her mobile but instead he received a SMS from the mobile phone of the deceased, that she was enjoying food with Indrani and would stay with her in the night,” read the charge sheet. The text message was “actually sent by Indrani after killing Sheena Bora,” it added.
