THE ONGOING probe into the illegal occupants at Nehru Enclave has once again established what HT Lucknow Live had maintained: that property officials were fudging figures on the issue of number of vacant flats in the colony.
LDA sleuths have begun a thorough probe to find out the real number of illegal occupants.

“A clear picture on the number of actual vacant properties in the Enclave would emerge in a day or two. But, on the basis of prelim-inary investigations we can say for sure that the number of unallotted flats is double the figure of 65 that was initially put out by the property section staff,” said an official requesting anonymity.

It is pertinent to mention here that LDA Vice Chairman BB Singh had cancelled the bookings and ordered an inquiry into the issue on August 8, after HT Lucknow Live pointed out the anomaly. Executive Engineer RK Jaiswal was asked to submit a comprehensive report within three days on the actual number of unallotted properties including the defaulters in the Enclave.

Subsequently, fresh bookings under the scheme were to be opened from August 17 till August 31.

“The probe has been hampered because of lack of requisite staff most of whom have been put on electoral roll revision duties by the administration,” informed executive engineer Jaiswal. He said all the data related to the Enclave had been made available to them and it would take another three, four days for them to complete the inquiry.

A similar inquiry conducted by the then executive engineer YK Jain in April had revealed the Enclave that comprised a total number of 804 flats had 119 defaulters, who owed a whopping Rs 5.70 crore (and this is just the principal amount) to the LDA. Only a handful of these defaulters have ever since paid part of the money they owe to the LDA.

Likewise, a category wise list of illegal occupants in all the four blocks of the colony was also prepared. According to this list of the total number of 263 unauthorised dwellers then in the Enclave, 37 lived in ‘Rupayan’, 31 in ‘Vatayan’ 130 in ‘Pushpayan’’ and 65 had grabbed ‘Premayan’ type flats in the colony.
