In a fresh anti-encroachment drive, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has asked all the shop owners and other squatters to stand clear of the public utility spaces in market areas.
The authority has been making announcements for the past two days through public address system in various localities such as Sector 14 Market and Sukhrali Market. “Tell people to remove their extended stuff that have encroached public utility spaces in markets and causing problems for shoppers,” the Huda administrator, Praveen Kumar, told his subordinates as he led a demolition drive at Sukhrali Market on MG Road along with enforcement staff and police.
Many shopkeepers in the posh Sector 14 market have already removed most of their stuff, including generator sets which were installed on the market lanes. “We have removed all our stuff two days ago as we anticipated this action on Sunday, when he (Huda chief) took strong action against shop owners at Sikandarpur. He earlier had action in Sector 4-5 also and said that the action will continue,” said a shop owner.
The Huda had taken such action earlier but failed to create the kind of pressure that the encroachers are feeling in Kumar's administration.
“I am simply doing my duty. As an administrator, it is my duty to take action against wrong things and bring transparency in the system. I am a common man and I know the people want good administration. I am just trying to re-instate people’s faith in the administration,” said Kumar, about whom no one knows which area he will choose as his next target.
