Huge quantities of arms recovered in Assam

A huge cache of arms and ammunition were found buried inside a reserve forest in Tinsukia district of Assam on Monday, officials said.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition were found buried inside a reserve forest in Tinsukia district of Assam on Monday, officials said.

Acting on specific information, a joint operation by the army and police was launched in Amarpur and Deopani Reserve forests under Sadiya police station last night.

The arms hidden in sacks and buried by the suspected ULFA militants in the forests include one AK-56 rifle, one SLR, a grenade launcher, four 9-mm pistols, four pen pistols, two grenades, 13 pistol magazines, 35 kgs of RDX and currency.

Security in the area has been beefed up and search operations were on, they added.
