It's not often you hear about the lighter side of urology. Canadian researchers examining ultrasound pictures of a tumour in a patient's testicle were amazed to see what looked like a ghostly face staring back at them.
It was almost like art coming out of this patient's testicles. It was an amusing finding," Dr Naji Touma, an assistant professor of urology at Queen's University tells Brad Bouzane of National Post blog.
So can the medicine men believe that this this is godly image on earth? "Despite the image, however, Touma doesn't suspect any divine presence," reports Bouzane.
"It's purely coincidental. That's what came to our mind, though, that somebody would look at this like the Virgin Mary on toast . . . but it's not the case," the doctor tells Bouzane.
"Touma and a resident doctor, Gregory Roberts, discovered the "face" in one of more than three dozen images that were scanned of the patient who had been feeling discomfort about two years ago," reads the report.
Luckily for the patient - a 45-year-old paraplegic man - the growth was benign and doctors removed the testicle with no complications.
The case was published in a recent issue of the journal Urology under the title, "The Face of Testicular Pain: A Surprising Ultrasound Finding."
