The father of the child whose stepmother allegedly killed him has asked the police to ensure she gets the harshest possible punishment.
A police official privy to the investigation, said Bhandup resident Shivlal Yadav (30) was very upset and angry with his wife and wanted her to be given the most severe punishment.
Yadav’s wife Dipika (30) was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing her infant stepson on Monday.
The police had registered a case of accidental death on Sunday after Kartik Shivlal Sutar was found dead by Dipika at their home. Dipika told the police that when she went to the bathroom, she found Karthik unconscious inside a plastic bucket, filled with water.
The neighbours rushed him to Rajawadi hospital, but he was declared dead before admission.
The neighbours in a complaint to the Bhandup police alleged that they suspect the boy was killed by Dipika.
The neighbours informed Childline, a helpline set up by the police whose volunteers took up the matter with the Child Welfare Committee and the local police.
The police refused to comment on the evidence they have against the accused. “It’s a part of investigation and cannot be revealed at this stage,” said senior police inspector Vilas Shinde.
