The principal-cum-director of an elite private residential school in Ranga Reddy district of Andhra Pradesh questioned by the police on Thursday after he was accused of raping a Class 11 girl.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim on Wednesday, Salahuddin Ayub, the principal of Parkwood School International, repeatedly raped her over a year, leading to her getting pregnant.
The school is on Vikarabad Road, about 60 km west of Hyderabad. "A case of rape and criminal intimidation has been booked against the accused," said DCP J. Satyanarayana. "The girl hails from Mumbai and was studying in the residential school," he said.
The 17-year-old victim alleged Ayub called her to his penthouse in connection with course work, and gave her a cold drink laced with sedatives. She felt uneasy and dozed off. When she woke up she found her private parts injured and bleeding, the complaint said. Ayub allegedly threatened her with a pistol, warning her not to reveal the crime to anyone. He sexually assaulted her several times after that over a year, the victim said.
The girl’s parents accompanied her to lodge a complaint. "We want him (Ayub) to be hanged to death," said the girl’s father, who works abroad.
Police visited the school, Ayub's house and other places where the girl was allegedly assaulted.
"We are questioning the principal and collecting evidence," a police officer said.
But the school authorities denied allegations against Ayub and claimed they were aimed at defaming the school.
As news of the case spread, some residents ransacked the school. AP Education Minister Manikya Vara Prasad said as the school did not come under purview of the state government's control, he would ask the CBSE to look into the matter.
Parkwood School International is part of a global chain, with branches in Canada, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
