Mikhail Bora, the son of Indrani Mukerjea from an earlier relationship, said on Wednesday he knew why his sister, Sheena Bora, was killed but he would spill the beans after the probe by Mumbai police got over.

Mikhail, 25, is the younger brother of Sheena who was 24 when she was murdered in 2012. Police say her body was dumped in Maharashtra’s Raigad district in 2012.

Indrani, former STAR India CEO Peter Mukerjea’s wife, was arrested on Tuesday on charges of murdering her daughter.

Mikhail lives with his ailing maternal grandparents — octogenarian businessman Upendra Kumar Bora and his wife Durga Rani Bora — at their house in Guwahati’s Sundarpur locality.

Details about Sheena and Mikhail’s father are sketchy. Neighbours and a family insider said Indrani’s children are from Siddhartha Das, with whom she had a relationship while studying at Lady Keane College in Meghalaya’s capital Shillong in the early 1980s.

Indrani – then known as Pari – was sent to pursue higher education in Shillong as a long anti-foreigner agitation had affected academic activities in Assam.

Indrani’s parents reportedly helped Das, unemployed at that time, set up a business in Guwahati. Indrani allegedly dumped him and went to Kolkata where she met Sanjeev Khanna, who had business interests in eastern India.

Shillong city police could not throw much light on Siddhartha Das, except for being in the know of “a Siddhartha Das who died in his late 50s some time ago”.

“Our mother left us when we were very young, and it wasn’t until 2004 that she renewed contact. She took Sheena along to Mumbai where she did her BA in economics,” Mikhail said.

Sheena graduated from Mumbai’s St Xavier’s College in 2009 and was later a management trainee with Reliance there.

The last time Sheena came home to her grandparents was in February 2012. “She had come to attend a marriage, and that was the last time I saw her,” Mikhail said.

Indrani subsequently told Mikhail that Sheena was studying in the US where she was likely to get a job. “I found it strange that baideo (elder sister) neither called nor SMS-ed for so long,” Mikhail said.

Sheena was one reason why Mikhail had an argument with Indrani when she visited her ailing mother in September 2013. “She stopped coming and sending us money thereafter. She probably wanted to sever our relationship,” he said.

Mikhail went to Delhi for higher education and worked with Lufthansa there before returning to Guwahati to help his grandfather with the family business.

“I will ensure justice is done to my sister,” he said.

Mikhail declined to speak about his biological father, saying he was too little to remember anything..
