Tanushree Dutta loses weight, and her inhibitions in this baat cheet with V Ananth

Isn't it a bit too early in your career to opt for a dark, negative character in Raama The Saviour?
I'm pretty positive about playing negative.. ha ha! The film isn't a romantic triangle, I play a pukka action-packed girl opposite a wrestler from Kuwait, Sahil Khan Talib, who's being introduced in the film.

I trained in taekwondu for a fortnight. Peter Hanks, the action director for Yash Chopra's Tashan is handling Raama The Saviour too.

How did you take the criticism that you had put on an ungainly amount of weight in Risk?
I take criticism in the right spirit. I resolved to get back into shape and I have.

Are you satisfied with your career graph?
I've always been optimistic. See, I made my debut in Chocolate just two years ago. My career may not have skyrocketed like that of some other actresses. I guess I belong to the slow and steady breed.

Director Raj Kanwar has badmouthed you for being unprofessional while shooting for Raqeeb.
No one has accused me of being unprofessional except Raj Kanwar. He did that for cheap publicity. That was foolish because the public rejected his film while the critics at least gave me positive reviews.

<b1>In fact, that was my first negative role so to speak. I'd shoot nonstop for 16 hours.. but does Mr Kanwar even remember that?

Would you work with Raj Kanwar again?
It was a nightmarish experience, I wouldn't work with him again.

I believe you've been turning down kissing scenes?
Yes, after Aashiq Banaya Aapne and Chocolate, I was bombarded with offers from the big as well as small banners. But a sexy scene has to make sense.. it shouldn't be done cheesily .

Were you okay with the steamy scenes in Aashiq Banaya Aapne because you were dating its director Aditya Datt?
Are you insinuating that I was vulnerable enough to do those scenes because I was seeing the director? In that case, why wasn't I linked with Vivek Agnihotri who directed Chocolate?

Are you still dating Aditya Datt?
I'm boringly single. It's been almost seven months since I've been in touch with Aditya.

Did you fall out with him because he cast newcomer Geeta Basra in his Dil Diya Hai instead of you?
A single film would never be the reason for a self-respecting girl like me to fall out with a friend. When I'm good, I'm very good. When I'm bad, heaven help you. I can easily do the vanishing act on my friends.

I may like a person but if he thinks I need him, I'll be the first one to dump him. In any case, I was never promised a role in Dil Diya Hai. (Laughs) And I have this knack of knowing how a film will fare.

Then why have you taken on several films which flopped?

I have no qualms in confessing that my weight came in my way. Also I'd been written off after

Raqeeb, Risk

Good Boy Bad Boy

My career was also affected by the rumours linking me with Aditya Datt.. though I wasn't in love with him at all. Then Priyadarshan signed me for a special appearance in

Bhagam Bhag

.. and things improved.

Why on earth did you take up a film like

In hindsight, I feel it was a wrong choice. It had seemed like a promising project when I'd signed it two years ago.

You mentioned

Bhagam Bhaag

.. but your role was restricted to an item number.

I love doing item numbers, they are even respected now in the film industry today. And I knew the item number would help me in my stage shows. Like you automatically think of only Aishwarya Rai and her

Kajra re

number when you think of

Bunty aur Babli

.. and not Rani Mukherji who played the leading lady .

Similarly, when you think of Bhagam Bhaag, you think of my item number Pyar ka signal and me and not Lara Dutta.

Were you surprised by the failure of Dhol?
I beg to disagree. Dhol didn't flop. It did decent business at the box office, it may be not of the kind expected from a Priyadarshan film.. but still. In fact, I owe several of my recent films to Dhol.

Lastly, tell me why did Abbas-Mustan drop you from Mr Fraud?
I won't deny the fact that Abbas-Mustan had cast me in Mr Fraud after I did an item number in their 36 China Town.

But they made it very clear to me that since Bipasha Basu is doing a double role in Mr Fraud with Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt, I would be sidelined. They gave me the option to take it or leave it.. so I left it.
