Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said he was not surprised that the Congress' was heading toward a landslide victory.
"I am not surprised. I had said earlier we would register a thumping win. I have been proved right today," Gogoi said.
"I am overwhelmed to get such love and affection from the people. Our responsibility has now increased further."
The chief minister said his government worked a lot in areas such as improving state's finances, law and order, health, employment and education.
Gogoi said no government in Assam had undertaken the kind of welfare measures his government did.
"People supported us for our selfless services to them," he said.
The chief minister said the people of Assam were politically conscious.
"Despite propaganda by the opposition parties and some organizations, we have been voted to power because of our performances. The people did not buy the propaganda."
Gogoi said Congress' alliance with its ruling ally Bodoland People's Front would continue.
