Sunny Deol, Salman Khan, Govinda and now Hrithik Roshan. What do they have in common? Great bodies (well, except Govinda perhaps), hit movies and being the brand ambassadors of innerwear brands.
What is it with Bollywood’s beefcakes that they feel the need to do something as so not cool as sign up for underwear ads? Hrithik Roshan arrived in Kolkata on Monday afternoon to promote the brand he was wearing under the light grey, fitting T-shirt and leg-hugging jeans he was sporting.
Anyway, an explanation was demanded from the only superhero of the Indian big screen and he replied skillfully and with plenty of good humour, “I identify with the brand and it matches my style. Ninety-nine per cent of us don’t move around without innerwear, isn’t it?” The answer inevitably generated laughter among all those present at the Hyatt Regency press meet.
Since questions were restricted to the brand, we asked about brand Hrithik. “I think the man Hrithik manages the brand Hrithik pretty well,” he answers suavely.
And then of course, there was the appeaser…the line any star in town loves to peddle.
“I have a lot of affection for the city. In fact, my connection with Kolkata runs in my blood. My grandmother is from here,” says the actor. Yawn.
He was also at his modest best when he answered the question on being the role model for the youth of the country — “I think I have role models, people whom I look up to.”
The rest is all one-liners. Has Shah Rukh Khan’s new slim and fit look for Om Shanti Om got to do a lot with Hrithik? “I am happy if I have inspired him,” he says.
What about your films? Let’s talk films — “I have Jodhaa-Akbar coming up in January,” he answers.
Before we could ask about his Adlabs deal, his forthcoming ventures and more, came the spoiler — a question that played the villain — on his kiss with Aishwarya Rai in Dhoom 2, which created controversy and his new film with her (Jodhaa-Akbar).
“You created it,” he replies about the controversy and backed off.
A big “Thank You” and he was off.
