The lady with an infectious smile talks about her strengths, the pageant and what sets her apart from other contestants. Check out the details.
Tell us about your background and how you entered the world of modelling?
I have studied science in my graduation and I was very good at academics. Modelling happened by chance. I was always against the profession. In fact, at one point of time I wanted to back out from Miss India contest. However, Elite had come down to India and they spotted me at some party. They pushed me into the world of ramp modelling and then there was no looking back. I still cannot believe that I am a model because I was convinced that I am not a model material.
How have you prepared yourself for the Miss Universe pageant?
I had a set of trainers for my hair, skin, fitness, voice modulation and for diction. People like Hemant Trivedi, Sabina Merchant, Ritu Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani have been really motivational. I would also say that this year, the process is more personified. I am satisfied with the way I have been groomed for the competition.
Who has designed your wardrobe for the event?
Evening gown is by Tarun Tahiliani and the national costume is by my favourite - Ritu Kumar.
Beauty for you is...
It's all about inner personality; what a person is all about and about his/her actions. I believe people remember you for what you are and what you do and not how you look. Looks and beauty need not be synonymous.
What do you expect from this year's pageant?
This year's Miss Universe is going to be loads of fun and 100 per cent dedication. I am going to give my best shot and will act as the ambassador for my country.
What makes you unique from other contestants?
In my opinion, each Miss Universe contestant is different and unique in her own way because each one of us comes from a very different upbringing and environment. I take pride in being a modern Indian woman with intrinsic traditional Indian values. My strength lies in being able to understand and accept people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

If you win the crown, what is the first thing you plan to do?
I will bring back the crown to my country. There are many issues existing in India, I would tackle those as part of my profile of a goodwill ambassador. I would ensure that those problems get tackled on time.
What if you lose the crown?
I won't get demoralized for sure. I would still smile and continue to be happy and content.
