Asaram, who came to his ashram in Indore on Saturday, said he had decided not to seek anticipatory bail and also claimed that he would have given up both food and water, if arrested.

He said if sent to jail, his condition would have become like that of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and George Fernandez who are now unable to even speak properly. “Both have been given something in the hospital,” he said.

He also alleged that the Mahila police in Jodhpur was putting pressure on the girl’s friends to give false statements.

In another development, a local advocate, Inderjit Singh Bhatia, filed a petition in the local court here on Monday alleging that the religious sentiments of Sikhs had been hurt after Asaram Bapu allegedly compared himself with Guru Nanak.

In his petition Bhatia demanded that all the ashrams of Asaram Bapu be sealed. The next hearing for the case has been fixed on September 28.
