Sunita (name changed), a 22-year-old maid who is a witness in the rape case against actor Shiney Ahuja, came out in support of her employer in an interview to NDTV.
Sunita claimed she had been working for the Ahujas for over a year-and-a-half and had never faced a problem. She said she visited her native place in Jharkhand two months ago, which is when Shiney’s wife Anupam hired the victim. When Sunita returned, the victim was asked to continue while Sunita was given the job of taking care of the Ahujas’ two-year-old daughter.
Casting doubts on the victim’s charges, Sunita said: “From the beginning, she appeared unreliable. On Sunday afternoon, when I asked her to come with me to church, she refused even though there was no work, which proves she was up to something.”
According to the police, Sunita was the last person to see the victim and Shiney together.
Sunita said there were times when Anupam would be out of town and she’d be alone with Shiney. “But never did he even look at me,” she said. “If Shiney bhaiyya returns, I will not hesitate to work for him again.”
Hang him: victim’s dad
The victim’s father said: “My daughter is traumatised. Shiney is dangerous, he should be hanged. If he isn’t, I will commit suicide.”
The Oshiwara police rubbished Sunita’s comments.
Meanwhile, the actor was on Thursday sent to judicial custody till July 2 by a local court, which refused to extend his three-day police remand, observing his further interrogation was not required.
The prosecution had sought police custody for three more days as they were awaiting the medical and forensic reports of the accused and the victim.
Shiney, on his part, complained he was being handcuffed while being produced in court and that it was hurting his hands. The magistrate warned the police not to do so again.
The actor looked happy to see his wife and was heard whispering to her, “things will be fine”.
Police said “the actor’s urine and blood samples have been taken and we need to probe if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol”.
