WHAT IS the meaning of “hot chase”?
The query from IG Lucknow zone AK Gupta stumped Station Officer (SO), Aliganj, at a review meeting held at the police lines on Sunday. SSP GK Goswami besides several additional superintendents of police (ASP) were also present at the meeting.

The SO had said his men were in “hot chase” of some listed criminals. SO Ashiyana was caught napping when asked about the provisions of Goonda Act.
Gupta also came down hard on ASPs. He said the ASPs were operating from their AC rooms and this was why auto lifting and chain snatching incidents were increasing.

“Till the ASPs and Circle Officers move out of their rooms and set a trend they would not be able to set an example before the men junior in the hierarchy,” Gupta said.

While he praised some officers like SO Mal Hemant Rai, SO Kakori Rajul Garg and Inspector Sadatganj Adesh Sharma, the IG directed ASP’s to be more vigilant in future.

Gupta, who set a deadline of September 28 to act against listed criminals, also expressed his concern that most inspectors and SOs were unable to meet the targets. He asked ASPs, COs, inspectors and SOs to react promptly in cases of communal tension.

The IG further asked the district police officials to give proper training to jawans about how to use tear gas in times of crises.
