IIM-I starts course for defence officers

A CERTIFICATE Programme on general Management for Defence Officers, the first of its kind to be run by the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM-I) under the scheme of resettlement programme of Ministry of Defence (MoD), was started today.

A CERTIFICATE Programme on general Management for Defence Officers, the first of its kind to be run by the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM-I) under the scheme of resettlement programme of Ministry of Defence (MoD), was started today.

Major General Harwant Krishan inaugurated the programme. He, in his address, said that the armed forces were totally committed to the welfare of their tribe and resettlement was also an important aspect of their duty towards providing for the well being of a military man and his family.  He expressed his concern over the dearth of opportunities and difficulties faced in the resettlement of bright officers in their second innings into the corporate world. 

Programme director Dr PK Chande said that it was a comprehensive, full time six-month programme. 45 officers selected from all branches of the Indian military including Army, Air Force and Navy includes officers from the rank of captain to colonel and a few lady officers.

The programme was designed to bring out the strength and capability of these officers as mangers and team leaders and enable a smooth transition in their future career in the corporate world. Another programme director Dr Sumita Rai briefed about the speciality of the programme and the uniqueness of the same in comparison to similar programmes run by the other IIM ad B-Schools.

IIM-I Director Dr PS Parashar welcomed the trainees from the military and satisfied their queries, while apprising them about the future global managerial challenges.

Training programme for competent defence officers would prove an opening as an additional channel of trained and experienced management professional to take various responsibilities in Strategy, HR, Finance, IT, Operations and International business in India and abroad.
