Entering into its second year of existence, IIM Shillong has devised a practice-oriented programme to combat global downturn.
The six-month management development programme in Sustainable Global Enterprise and eMarketing (SGEeM) began on July 1 for working executives, corporate leaders and senior officers of the Government of India and defence services.
"The year 2008 was a defining year in world economic history. From the soaring altitudes of hope and excitement of high economic growth, the world slipped into despair and anxiety by the third quarter of 2008-09. Markets started shrinking as demand slowed down", an IIM spokesman said.
He said there was a need to get back to the basics and understand the customers on what will motivate them to buy product or services being sold in the market.
"This course is focusing more on bringing people together to learn how to build and lead thriving sustainable global enterprises. It also an attempt to zero down the challenges ... In the world of business during downturn"", the spokesman added.
The Shillong IIM celebrated its first birthday on Saturday.
