IIT-JEE: Ranchi lad tops in state, ranks 9th in country

Ranchi lad Anumpam Khandelwal topped in the state and ranked ninth in the All India Ranking of the joint entrance examination (Advanced) results for the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
The results of which was declared on Friday evening.
According to the Ranchi based coaching institutes, out of 11,000 JEE (Main) students, who were allowed to sit for the JEE (Advanced) exam on June 2 this year, only 450 cleared the examination.
Anumpam’s cousin Aniket Khandelwal also cleared the examination with AIR 56 while Anagh Prasad ranked 66th in the AIR.
Son of KK Khandelwal, principal secretary in the Jharkhand Government, Anupam scored 310 marks in aggregate out of total 360 marks.
He secured 106 in Physics, 112 in Mathematics and 92 in Chemistry in JEE (Advanced) exam. His aggregate total was a little low in JEE (Main), in which he had scored 305 marks in aggregate out of total 360 marks.
Khandelwal belongs to an IITian family. His father did IIT from IIT Kharagpur and had ranked 52 in the AIR while his elder brother Ankur Khandelwal is doing IIT from IIT Delhi.
“Yes, my father and brother helped me a lot in the journey to crack the JEE (Advanced) exam,” Anupam told Hindustan Times. He also credited his institute Brother’s Academy for the success.
Anupam wanted Computer Science from IIT Delhi. “My elder brother is also doing the same subject from same institute. Therefore, I decided to take admission there,” he said. However, he wants to make his career in management field. “After IIT, I would like to go for MBA,” he said.
Anumpam said seriousness more important than study. “I think eight-hour study a day is enough to clear IIT, if student is serious. I used to pay about eight-hour a day and it was my first attempt for IIT,” he said.
