A TEAM of scientists headed by Prof Jayanta Chatterji of the Industrial Management Engineering (IME) Department at the IIT-K has developed a new software for providing two-way information to the employers and the job seekers. The new system has been named as “Shramik(Labour) Mandi”.

According to Prof Chatterji the new system would eliminate the presence of human mediators in locating the required number of skilled or unskilled workers by any industry or any other office. On the other hand, the system would inform the job seekers about the vacancies available in the industries.

He said the special software was being developed with the inputs taken from the employment exchange and other employment agencies which after being installed in the computer could be used to provide the employment news to the employer and the employee. Computers installed with this software could be kept at the kiosks, in offices and even at info-thelas to give information about the vacancies to the job seekers without going to the mediators or the employment exchanges.

The software is expected to be introduced for commercial use within next few months after going through intensified accuracy tests. The software has been developed under a project of Media Lab Asia.   Earlier, Dr H Karnik had developed a software on Digital Mandi to disseminate information marketing the agriculture products and the methods to grow better crop by consulting the agro experts.
