No suicide note has been found, police said. His laptop has been sent to the cyber crime department to look for any clues that shed light on his suspected suicide, a police inspector said. Gowri Sankar’s death was discovered after one of his friends checked in on him at around 12.30pm.
A senior engineer at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the firm had sponsored his course.
Considered an academically good student, he was also not known to have health problems. “He did well in the last semester and was not under any duress,” an IIT professor said.
Gowri Sankar is the third student to commit suicide in the last seven months inside the IIT campus. In May, L Nitin Kumar Reddy, a MTech mechanical student was found hanging in his hostel room and in February another M Tech (mechanical) student had committed suicide.
