Illicit liquor, smack seized, two held

The Hazratganj police seized consignment of illicit foreign-made liquor from a Maruti Esteem while the Aliganj police arrested two drug-peddlers carrying 500 gm smack worth Rs 50 lakh in the International market on Wednesday.

The Hazratganj police seized consignment of illicit foreign-made liquor from a Maruti Esteem while the Aliganj police arrested two drug-peddlers carrying 500 gm smack worth Rs 50 lakh in the International market on Wednesday.

In the first incident, the cops intercepted a car (UP 78 V-1501) near Hazratganj crossing. Seeing the police one of the occupants in the car fled the scene giving police the slip. The cops searched the vehicle to find three cartons containing 36 bottles of various brands of the foreign liquor.

The driver was identified as Surat Singh of Muzaffarpur, Bihar and identified his associate as Billu of Kanpur city. Surat Singh revealed during interrogation that Billu had brought him from Kanpur and he was unaware about the racket of selling illicit liquor.

In Aliganj, the police team caught Mohammad Raju and Manoj, both of Barabanki and recovered 500 gm of smack from the possession of the accused. The duo was carrying it to deliver to different retailers in the city.
