THE WILFUL creation of new posts in violation of law has landed the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) in hot water. The Urban Administration Development Department has demanded a clarification from civic bosses on Market Officer, Information Technology Officer and several other posts for which there is no provision under the MP Municipal Corporation Act, 1956.

At a meeting held in Bhopal on Wednesday, Additional Municipal Commissioner (General Administration Department) Kumar Purshottam was grilled by the UAD brass about the novel posts.

They also demanded to know the category of officials (whether Class II or I etc) stationed at these posts and the salaries and benefits being paid to them.

The meeting was convened to gauge the administrative structure of the IMC as a prelude to the shunting out of deputation staffers as directed by the High Court.

Corporation sources revealed that civic body honchos had created nearly half-a-dozen posts for which there was no legal sanction.

Notably, additional posts can be created only through government’s authorisation followed by the issuance of a gazette notification.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Kumar Purshottam tried to downplay the matter that extra-legal posts existed in several other municipal corporations not just the IMC.
