IMC torches illegal posters

india Updated: Jan 09, 2007 14:26 IST

IT WAS a bonfire of vanities of sorts. Watched on by Mayor Uma Shashi Sharma, the Indore Municipal Corporation removal department on Monday set ablaze over 350 posters and banners erected to welcome BJP leader L K Advani, mostly by supporters of PWD Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya. The banners were burnt at Rajwada, Palasia and LIG Square in the presence of Mayor-in-Council members Lalit Porwal, Shankar Yadav, Anil Bindal and Sapna Chauhan.

A fair sprinkling of the posters and banners bore the smiling visage of the Minister, a fact that did not escape onlookers, although Corporation staffers were careful to turn them upside down before torching them.

In all 380 posters and banners were pulled down and burnt. Of these, 220 were torched at Rajwada, 110 at Palasia and 50 at LIG Square.

After the bonfire the Mayor issued instructions to officials to keep a keen eye on illegal hoardings and destroy these as soon as they were detected.
