In a sign of the new power equations post elections, India's public broadcaster - Doordarshan - will telecast live the annual Vijaya Dashmi address of the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat from Nagpur. This is the most important public event in the Sangh's calendar. The RSS is considered the ideological parent of the ruling BJP.

DD's decision is a first, for in UPA's ten years, the public broadcaster did not cover the RSS chief's address. Sangh sources said that even during NDA-1 term, the speech was not carried live. DD news sources too confirmed that the event would be covered live in full.

Many private broadcasters too would be broadcasting the event on their networks.

It is during the Dushhera address that the RSS chief lays out the Sangh's vision, its priorities, analysis of what ails the country, and prescribes solutions. It is supposed to provide 'margdarshan', guidance to the cadres. Last year, Bhagwat had launched a no holds-barred attack on UPA on the economy and foreign policy, and urged voters to turn out in full strength. This appeal for a higher turnout then became a key element of the BJP's poll strategy.

Top BJP leaders including Nitin Gadkari and state party officials often attend the event.
