Five CRPF personnel were killed when Naxals triggered a landmine blast in Dantewada district, 450 km from Raipur.

The mine blew up a private truck in which the forces were travelling to a spot where Naxalistes were reported to have set
some vehicles on fire. Fifteen personnel were injured.

Unconfirmed reports, however, claimed the casualty was more than 10.

“The securitymen boarded a private truck to reach the spot... Before embarking on such a plan, they felt neither the need to consult their IG nor inform the Dantewada superintendent of police,” said Chhattisgarh DGP Vishwaranjan, who goes by his first name only.

He said information of the attack was received after the injured CRPF men reached Jagdalpur. “Several CRPF men perhaps stayed back to counter the Naxal attack and assist their injured colleagues,” he said.

Gadchiroli strike
In Maharashtra, two policemen were injured in an encounter with Naxals in Gadchrioli district, bordering Chhattisgarh. A police party was on routine combing operation when some 70 Naxalites opened fire on it. The gun-battle lasted two hours.
