As Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad battles for his life at the Army Hospital Research & Referral (R&R), students and citizens in some parts of the nation were seen organising puja ceremonies and taking part in a candlelight vigil praying for his recovery.

Koppad and nine other soldiers were swept away by an avalanche at the Siachen glacier on February 3, at an altitude of around 19,500 feet. He was found on Monday, miraculously alive but in critical condition.

Koppad is recieving treatment at the Army Research and Referral Hospital by a team of intensivists, neurologist, nephrologist, endocrinologist and surgeons.
