They may not be educated. They may not be famous. But they have proximity to some of the most powerful personalities of the state, courtesy their skill with the scissors.

Taslim Ahmed and Nafis Ahmed, brothers, are barbers by profession, but occupy significant space in the lives of eminent political leaders like ND Tiwari, Tilak Raj Behad and others.

Taslim, 50, told Hindustan Times, “Several politicians like Tiwariji and Behadji are our customers. They often drop in for a haircut.”

So, is there a special haircut that is popular among netas of the state? “Not really. Every single neta wants to look simple. Therefore, they want regular haircuts. Sometimes, during summer, they opt for short hair and favour a normal haircut in winter,” said Nafis, 42. Known for their outlet Trimax Hairdressers at Hotel Drona, the ‘power’ of the duo can be well ascertained by the fact that most of their ‘client ministers’ call them regularly. It’s the personal touch that rules their profession.

“Ministers like Tiwariji and some others call us regularly. They just want to know how we are doing. I think in the last 25 years since we started this business, we have earned the hearts of politicians,” Taslim said.

Whatever be the case, the ‘power of politics’ is just a phone call away for the duo. So, have they ever engaged the P power? Nafis replied almost instantly, “Not at all. We never required help of politicians. Though the ministers keep on asking us, we don’t want to mix professional and personal relations. They are our esteemed customers and we will always remain obliged for their love.”

However, ministers do give them handsome tips as a token of appreciation. Taslim said, “Ramprasad Tamta, Congress leader, gives us handsome tips.

He’s a gem of a person. Like him, there are others who are not concerned with our rates, but give a handsome amount for our work.” So, which neta dons a perfect haircut? “Needless to mention, Prakash Pant,” Nafis said.
