Virender Singh says in last three years his monthly cost of living has been hiked from R6000 to R10000, even though he was living alone.

“In 2002, I was living at Sector 20 in a one room house and paying rent of Rs 1500. In 2008, the rent was Rs 2200. And in 2010, it was suddenly hiked to Rs 4500. I shifted to Mayur Vihar, Delhi, where I got a one room set for Rs 3000,” Virender Singh said.

“I am not able to bring my family to Noida due to the high cost of living here,” Singh added. “Now another problem in getting the house on rent was landlords asking us to fill the tenant verification form which they claim will be submitted to local police station. Are we criminals whose photographs and details are given to the police. Landlord can verify our credentials through our workplace or a public representative of the area,” Singh said.
