As part of security measures ahead of Independence Day celebrations, the city police have increased surveillance at all public places such as shopping malls, hotels, bus stands, railway stations and religious places.

Gurgaon police commissioner S S Deswal said security personnel have been asked to be more vigilant.

Hotels, dharamshalas and guest houses are being checked and owners have been told not to allow anyone without checking the identity of the guests.

Outsiders should be allowed only after proper verification so as to avoid any untoward incident, he said.

A police officer said owners of shopping malls and hotels have been directed to engage only authorised security agencies. Private security guards should be trained and their antecedents should be properly verified.

Deswal said the Gurgaon police have been receiving complaints that some companies of Manesar have employed security guards with criminal antecedents.

The city police are also sharing intelligence inputs with its counterparts in other states such as Delhi, Rajasthan and adjoining districts of Haryana like Jhajjar, Rewari, Mewat, and Faridabad.
